What’s skinny jeans!?” - Wide leg Jeans : 90s Bollywood Fashion

Exactly! Skinny ones make us girls look heavier waist below, an awful, bully-friendly sight, especially with a body shape pear like me. Nonetheless, we all know our Saviour! our Massiah! Yeah, you guessed it right smarty pants, WIDE LEGGED JEANS!!

But will you be shocked if I told you that wide and flared jeans, that too high waist, were a massive fashion trend back in late 90s!? Widely paired with chic crop tops just as Karishma Kapoor did, a trend that resonated with the younger generation. Juhi Chawla added vintage style with grace – off-shoulder tops and dresses paired with corsets! Madhuri Dixit wearing backless blouses with sarees while Kajol's fashion sense was a mix of quirky and traditional elements. The men however did not let us down. SRK popularized long coats over traditional Indian attire, Amir Khan pulling denim-on-denim outfits, sporty jackets, and funky accessories, creating a cool and relatable fashion image.

Bollywood fashion wasn’t always a fusion of traditional Indian attire with Western influences like in 1990s. Going back further, 1980s witnessed bold fashion statements with actors like Anil Kapoor - men flaunting flashy accessories, colourful shirts sharp shoulder pads and oversized blazers while actresses like Sridevi and Rekha set new benchmarks in fashion from sequined and Kanjeevaram sarees to dramatic gowns, bold makeup and heavy jewellery. The 1970s saw flamboyant and colourful styles taking centre stage, Bell-bottom pants, vibrant floral prints, and flashy accessories became the rage while Amitabh Bacchan popularized the trend of wearing colourful, oversized shirts with wide collars and flared trousers, becoming a style icon for the masses. Lastly, Early 90s saw a fusion of traditional Indian attire with a touch of Western influences. The actresses donned elegant sarees, often with a twist of glamour, while the actors sported well-tailored suits.
